One platform, and a new owner
Vizio runs SmartCast across the whole range, from the entry D-series up through V, M, Quantum and the Mini-LED line. The bigger change is corporate: Walmart completed its acquisition of Vizio on 3 December 2024, taking the company private, and the newest models are Walmart and Sam’s Club exclusives.

Vizio currently has two mobile apps in the stores — the long-running SmartCast Mobile and a newer, redesigned VIZIO Mobile. They coexist, which is why guides disagree about which one to install.
Reaching the menu with no remote
Vizio uses a vertical stack of discrete buttons on the rear, in the bottom-left or bottom-right corner on sets from 2015 onward, with power at the top and volume and input below. There is nothing to tilt — these are simple buttons, which is why they cannot navigate a menu the way Samsung’s jog stick can. Older sets put them on the front-left bezel or the side.
Those rear buttons cover power, volume and input only. Reaching the network menu means a remote or a paired phone; if the set has never been online, Ethernet is the way through first-time setup.
Known Vizio failure mode
The recurring Vizio pattern in support threads is an update that resets network settings or breaks HDMI input detection, after which the app can no longer find a TV it controlled the day before. It reads like a hardware fault and is not one.
What helps: Unplug the set at the wall for a full sixty seconds, then re-enter the Wi-Fi password rather than assuming it was kept. If the update was interrupted midway, clearing network settings and reconnecting is the documented next step.

Yes — our free wireless remote replacement iOS app gives you complete control of your Vizio SmartCast over Wi-Fi using HTTPS (port 7345/9000). Your TV is discovered automatically via SSDP/DIAL. The app prompts you to complete 4-digit PIN. Navigation, volume, HDMI inputs, media controls, and streaming app launcher all work from your iPhone without a physical remote. This is a permanent solution — many users keep the app even after replacing batteries.
Most Vizio Vizio SmartCast remotes use 2 × AA (1.5V) alkaline batteries. Premium models like slim remotes may use AAA cells — check your specific model's battery compartment cover. Standard alkaline AA batteries last 6–18 months with typical use. While waiting for replacements, our free Vizio remote app provides complete wireless remote control of your Vizio SmartCast via HTTPS (port 7345/9000) with no batteries required.
SmartCast Mobile, or VIZIO Mobile. Both are current. SmartCast Mobile is still being updated; VIZIO Mobile is the redesigned one, with voice control and WatchFree+ shortcuts. Check which your TV’s setup screen points you at before installing either.
