Yes, a phone app can control your Westinghouse TV over Wi-Fi instead of a plastic remote. Before installing one, check what you own: Every current Westinghouse smart TV is a Roku TV (model numbers starting WR) that an iPhone reaches over Wi-Fi with no pairing; a model number starting WD means a non-smart panel no phone app can reach.
Every current Westinghouse smart TV is a Roku TV, and the app reaches it over Wi-Fi with no pairing code. Basic controls stay free — no paywall after two taps, no credit card.

Two letters on the model plate decide everything
Westinghouse sells smart and non-smart TVs side by side, in the same sizes, at nearly the same prices, with model numbers that differ by one letter. Every current Westinghouse smart TV runs Roku TV, but the brand also shipped Amazon Fire TV Edition sets in 2017 — built by Tongfang Global, the same company behind Element — and still sells plain WD-series panels with no network at all.
| Model line / series | TV operating system | How it is controlled over the network | Pairing | On-set button |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WR HD / 4K Roku TV (e.g. WR32HE2520 32", WR43UT4212 43") | Roku TV | Roku ECP — HTTP on port 8060, found by SSDP | None — connects instantly | Single Roku-standard button under the set |
| Mini-LED Roku TV and Roku TV Max (e.g. WR65MX6500, 55"–75") | Roku TV | Roku ECP — HTTP on port 8060, found by SSDP | None — connects instantly | Single Roku-standard button under the set |
| Fire TV Edition, 2017 (WA43UFA1001, WA50UFA1001, WA55UFA1001, WA65UFA1001) | Amazon Fire TV Edition | Fire TV network protocol over Wi-Fi | One-time 4-digit PIN shown on the TV screen | Small button on the underside |
| WD standard series (WD32HB1120, WD24HX1201, WD32HX5201 with DVD) | Basic panel — no smart platform | None: no network stack to talk to | Not applicable | Button row on the rear or side edge |
The prefix is the test: WR is Roku TV, WA…UFA is the 2017 Fire TV Edition, WD is a basic panel. The top of the current range is branded "Roku TV Max" — Mini-LED sets with a native 144 Hz panel — and it is still Roku TV underneath, reached the same way as the 32-inch WR32HE2520.
Reaching the menu with no remote
Westinghouse Roku TVs follow the Roku convention: one button under the set, short press for power or the input list, long press to power off. On some sizes it sits toward the bottom-left corner rather than dead centre, so run a finger along the whole lower edge before assuming there is none. WD-series panels use a separate button row on the back or side.
On a Westinghouse Roku TV the network menu needs a remote or a phone, as on any Roku TV; plugging in Ethernet gets you through setup without either. On a 2017 WA…UFA Fire TV Edition set the first phone connection asks for an on-screen PIN once. A WD-series panel has no network menu at all.
Known Westinghouse failure mode
Check the first two letters of the model number before anything else. WD32HB1120 and WR32HE2520 are both 32-inch Westinghouse TVs sold side by side, but only the WR is a smart TV — the WD has no network hardware, so no app on any phone will ever see it. If it is a WR, the TV and phone must be on the same Wi-Fi network; guest networks and AP isolation block the SSDP discovery Roku TVs use.

Auto-Discovery. Zero Config.
A free iPhone remote for every Westinghouse that has a network connection. WR-series Roku TVs — from the 32-inch WR32HE2520 to the Mini-LED Roku TV Max line such as WR65MX6500 — connect over Roku ECP on port 8060 with no pairing; the four 2017 Fire TV Edition sets (WA43UFA1001 to WA65UFA1001) connect after a one-time on-screen PIN. Westinghouse publishes no remote app of its own. Basic controls (D-pad, OK, volume, channels) stay free forever — no credit card, no 2-tap paywall.
How it works
WR (WR32HE2520, WR43UT4212, WR65MX6500) is a Roku TV the app controls. WA…UFA1001 is a 2017 Fire TV Edition set, also supported. WD (WD32HB1120) is a non-smart panel no app can reach.
Install the Universal TV Remote app at zero cost. No account, no credit card, no trial countdown.
The app finds a Westinghouse Roku TV by SSDP on your local network. Phone and TV must be on the same network — guest Wi-Fi and AP isolation hide the TV.
Roku ECP on port 8060 needs no PIN, so the D-pad, OK, volume and channel keys work the moment you tap the set in the list.
FAQ
Specific answers for Westinghouse TV users — including which Westinghouse lines run which system.
For WR-series Westinghouse Roku TVs, our app connects over Roku ECP on port 8060 with no pairing — SSDP finds the set on your Wi-Fi in seconds. It also reaches the 2017 WA…UFA1001 Fire TV Edition sets after a one-time 4-digit PIN. Westinghouse publishes no remote app of its own, so a universal app is the only single app that covers both.
Read the model number on the back or in the manual. WR at the start (WR32HE2520, WR43UT4212) means Roku TV — yes. WA…UFA1001 means a 2017 Fire TV Edition — yes, with a PIN. WD at the start (WD32HB1120, WD24HX1201) means a standard panel with no network hardware — no phone app can reach it.
Yes. Roku TV Max is Westinghouse's name for its Mini-LED sets with a native 144 Hz panel, but underneath it is still Roku TV, so the app controls it exactly like a 32-inch WR model: SSDP discovery, Roku ECP on port 8060, no pairing.
Yes. D-pad navigation, OK, volume up/down and channel up/down are free forever on Westinghouse Roku TVs — no trial that expires, no credit card, no paywall after two taps. Premium adds power, keyboard, touchpad and app shortcuts.
None — Westinghouse publishes no remote app for its TVs. Westinghouse does not ship a first-party remote app. Its Roku TVs answer to Roku’s official app, the 2017 Fire TV Edition sets to Amazon’s — and neither can do anything for a WD-series panel. A universal app that speaks both network protocols covers every Westinghouse that has a network connection.
