Getting a Sony Bravia Google TV or Android TV onto Wi-Fi without the RMF-TX remote requires a temporary Ethernet connection as a bridge. Plug a LAN cable into the Bravia's Ethernet port (rear panel, left side on most XR models) to get the TV online, then use our iPhone app — connected via that same network — to navigate to the Google TV Network & Internet settings and enter your Wi-Fi credentials. Once saved, unplug Ethernet and your Bravia will auto-connect to Wi-Fi on every boot.

Auto-Discovery. Zero Config.
Your Sony TV appears in the app automatically — no IP address, no Bluetooth, no pairing code. Connects in under 10 seconds on any home Wi-Fi network.
How it works
Press the physical power button on the Sony TV chassis — bottom-center or rear panel on most models.
Plug an Ethernet cable into the Sony TV's LAN port. This gives the TV network access before Wi-Fi is configured.
Download the Universal TV Remote app on your iPhone — free, no account or subscription required.
Open the app. Your Sony TV auto-discovers on the network within seconds. Tap to connect — no Bluetooth, no code.
Use the app to open Settings → Network on your Sony TV. Select your network, enter the password, and save. Disconnect Ethernet when done.
FAQ
Specific answers for Sony TV users.
Connect Ethernet to the Bravia. On your iPhone, open the app and connect to the TV over the wired network. Navigate: Google TV Home → Settings (gear icon) → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi. Select your network SSID, enter the password using the on-screen keyboard via the app's virtual keyboard, and confirm. The Bravia saves the credential. Remove the Ethernet cable — Google TV will connect via Wi-Fi from this point forward.
Yes, but they are limited. The single Power / Input button on the rear panel of most Sony Bravia TVs (XR and X-Series) cycles between power on/off and input source selection only — it cannot navigate the Google TV or Android TV settings menus. There is no physical joystick on Sony Bravia TVs. An Ethernet cable plus our iPhone app is the only practical path to Wi-Fi setup without the remote.
Once your Bravia is online via Ethernet, navigate: Settings → Device Preferences → IP Control → Simple IP Control → set to On. Also check that Authentication is set to Normal and note the Pre-Shared Key (default: 0000). After enabling IP Control, the app will discover the TV automatically. This setting persists after switching to Wi-Fi, so you only need to enable it once.
