Hisense sells the same panel with different software depending on where you bought it. In North America the U-series runs Google TV, part of the range ships with Fire TV, and a handful of models are Roku TVs. In Europe the same hardware runs VIDAA, Hisense’s own platform — the 2026 UR9S and UR8S flagships are literally the same TV with VIDAA in Europe and Google TV in North America.
| Model line / series | TV operating system | How it is controlled over the network | Pairing | On-set button |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| U-series (U6 / U7 / U8, North America) | Google TV | Android TV remote protocol over TLS, ports 6466/6467 | 6-digit PIN on screen | Control stick under the centre of the bottom bezel, or rear behind the logo |
| Hisense Fire TV models (e.g. U6HF) | Amazon Fire TV | Local HTTP, found by mDNS (_amzn-wplay._tcp) | 4-digit PIN on screen | Control stick under the centre of the bottom bezel |
| Hisense Roku TV models | Roku TV | Roku ECP — HTTP on port 8060, found by SSDP | None on most units | Single button, underside or rear |
| VIDAA models (Europe, most of the range) | VIDAA U | Hisense’s own local protocol — not Roku, Google TV or Fire TV | Handled inside RemoteNOW | Control stick under the centre of the bottom bezel |
| 2026 UR9S / UR8S flagships | VIDAA in Europe · Google TV in North America | Follows whichever OS the region shipped | Follows the OS | Varies — some recent flagships hide the control entirely |
VIDAA is Hisense’s in-house system and speaks its own protocol; RemoteNOW is the app written for it. A universal app that covers Roku OS, Google TV and Fire TV does not reach a VIDAA set.
Reaching the menu with no remote
Most Hisense sets use a single five-way control stick rather than a button strip. It sits behind a small opening under the centre of the bottom bezel, roughly below the logo, or in the same position on the rear panel. Press it to power on, tilt it for volume and channel, and hold it to reach an on-screen quick menu on models that offer one.
From that quick menu the route is Settings → Network → Network Configuration, then pick your SSID and type the password. If your model has no quick menu, a USB keyboard plugged into the TV navigates first-time setup, and Ethernet skips the Wi-Fi step altogether.
Known Hisense failure mode
Owners of Android-based Hisense models — the U6K and its Canadian U68KM variant come up most often — have widely reported sets becoming unresponsive after installing a firmware update. Hisense has not published an acknowledgement, so treat this as a well-attested owner report rather than a documented defect.
What helps: The recovery owners describe is a manual firmware reinstall: the correct image for your exact model on a FAT32 USB stick in the TV’s first USB port, then the power and panel button held to enter recovery mode. If the set is in warranty, call Hisense before trying it.
