onn is Walmart’s house TV brand, and its model numbers are Walmart item codes — eight digits like 100012584 that say nothing about the platform inside. Most onn TVs to date run Roku TV, but from 2024 parts of the range, the QLED line in particular, switched to Google TV at the same price point. The two need different connection paths.

The badge under the screen and the boot logo are the reliable test: "onn. Roku TV" versus "onn. Google TV". Two identical-looking onn boxes from different model years can run different platforms with the same style of model number.
Reaching the menu with no remote
onn Roku models follow the Roku convention: a single button under the badge, short press for power or the input list, long press to power off. The Google TV models carry a single button or a small row on the underside; behaviour varies by production run.
On an onn Roku TV the network menu needs a remote or a phone; Ethernet gets you through setup without either. On an onn Google TV the first phone connection asks for the on-screen PIN once, and after that the set reconnects automatically.
Known onn failure mode
Walmart switched parts of the onn range from Roku TV to Google TV from 2024 without changing how the boxes look or how the model numbers read. A Roku-only tool will never discover a Google TV onn. Check the boot logo — the platform decides the protocol.
