TCL smart TVs — whether running Google TV (QM8, QM7) or Roku TV (6-Series, 5-Series) — can be configured for Wi-Fi without the remote, provided you use an Ethernet cable as a temporary bridge. Connect a LAN cable to the TCL TV's Ethernet port (rear panel, left side), use our iPhone app to connect over the wired network, and navigate to Network Settings to enter your Wi-Fi credentials. The process takes under five minutes and works identically across both TCL TV platforms.

Auto-Discovery. Zero Config.
Your TCL TV appears in the app automatically — no IP address, no Bluetooth, no pairing code. Connects in under 10 seconds on any home Wi-Fi network.
How it works
Press the physical power button on the TCL TV chassis — bottom-center or rear panel on most models.
Plug an Ethernet cable into the TCL TV's LAN port. This gives the TV network access before Wi-Fi is configured.
Download the Universal TV Remote app on your iPhone — free, no account or subscription required.
Open the app. Your TCL TV auto-discovers on the network within seconds. Tap to connect — no Bluetooth, no code.
Use the app to open Settings → Network on your TCL TV. Select your network, enter the password, and save. Disconnect Ethernet when done.
FAQ
Specific answers for TCL TV users.
Connect an Ethernet cable to the TCL Roku TV's LAN port. Open the app on your iPhone — it will discover the Roku TV on your network. Navigate: Settings → Network → Set Up Connection → Wireless. Select your Wi-Fi SSID from the scan results, enter the password via the on-screen keyboard, and confirm. The TCL Roku TV will save the credentials. Remove the Ethernet cable — the TV connects to Wi-Fi automatically on all subsequent boots.
Connect Ethernet to the TCL QM8 or QM7. Enable IP Control: via the physical button on the TV chassis (hold for 3 seconds to access basic OSD), or by connecting via Ethernet once — Google TV auto-enables IP Control on first network connection. Open the app on your iPhone, connect to the TV, navigate: Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → your SSID → enter password → Save. Disconnect Ethernet after successful Wi-Fi connection.
Most TCL 6-Series and QM8 models include a physical Ethernet port. The 5-Series (43S555 and 55S555) and smaller models may not. In that case: (1) Create a mobile hotspot on a second phone with the same SSID/password as your home network — the TCL TV will auto-connect if it has seen that network before. (2) Use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter with a USB power source connected to the TV's USB port (limited compatibility). (3) If the TCL TV is factory-fresh, it broadcasts a Roku setup Wi-Fi hotspot on first boot — connect your iPhone to it and use the app to complete setup.
