A free Sanyo TV remote app that's actually free

Yes, a phone app can control your Sanyo TV over Wi-Fi instead of a plastic remote. Before installing one, check what you own: Sanyo TVs in the US are Funai-built Roku TVs sold through Walmart with FW model numbers — the same factory that makes the US Philips sets.

100% free basic controls. No paywall after 2 taps. No credit card. Works on all Sanyo Roku TVs.

Sanyo in the US is a Funai line sold at Walmart

Which Sanyo TV you have — and how it takes commands

Funai Corporation holds the North American licence for the Sanyo name, alongside Philips, Magnavox and Emerson — which is why a Sanyo and a US Philips behave identically: they are the same company’s Roku TVs with different badges. Sanyo Roku TVs are sold through Walmart, and the model numbers begin FW.

Sanyo TV model lines, the operating system each one runs, how it is reached over the network, whether pairing is required, and where the on-set button is.
Model line / series TV operating system How it is controlled over the network Pairing On-set button
FW32 series (e.g. FW32R19F) Roku TV — 32", 1366×768 Roku ECP — HTTP on port 8060, found by SSDP None on most units Single Roku-standard button, underside or rear
FW65 series (e.g. FW65R70F) Roku TV — 4K UHD with HDR Roku ECP — HTTP on port 8060, found by SSDP None on most units Single Roku-standard button, underside or rear
Pre-Roku Sanyo sets Sanyo’s own menu system — not Roku Many have no network stack at all Not applicable Button row on the rear or edge

Funai launched the first Sanyo Roku TV only recently. Sanyo sets that predate it are not Roku TVs, and many were never network-connected at all — a Wi-Fi app has nothing to find on those.

Reaching the menu with no remote

The Roku button, on a Walmart-channel chassis

FW-series Sanyos follow the Roku convention: one button under the panel or on the rear. Short press powers on when the set is off; when it is on, short press opens the Input List and a long press powers down. Older non-Roku Sanyos instead carry a full button row, because there is no on-screen system to drive.

On an FW Roku TV the network menu needs a remote or a phone — Ethernet is the way through first-time setup without either. On a pre-Roku Sanyo the button row is the whole interface and there is no network menu to reach.

Known Sanyo failure mode

The remote app cannot see a Sanyo that is definitely switched on

The first thing to rule out on a Sanyo is age. Funai’s Roku line is recent; a Sanyo bought before it runs Funai’s own menu system and, on many models, has no network hardware to discover. No amount of router troubleshooting will make a non-networked panel appear.

What helps: Check the model plate for the FW prefix and look for a Roku logo at boot. If it is an FW Roku set, the usual Roku causes apply — Control by mobile apps under Settings → System → Advanced system settings, and AP isolation on the router blocking SSDP. If it is not, infrared is the only route in.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Specific answers for Sanyo TV users — including which Sanyo lines run which system.

What is the best free remote app for Sanyo TV on iPhone?

Our app is a top-rated free Sanyo remote for iPhone. It connects to your Sanyo Roku TV via HTTP REST (Roku ECP) (port 8060), with SSDP finding your TV automatically on the local network. No PIN or pairing code is required — the connection is instant. Features include full D-pad navigation, volume and mute, HDMI input switching, media playback controls, and streaming app launcher. No in-app purchases, no subscription, no ads — all features unlocked at no cost.

How does the free Sanyo remote app connect to my TV without Bluetooth or IR?

The app communicates entirely over your home Wi-Fi network using HTTP REST (Roku ECP) (port 8060). SSDP discovery finds your Sanyo Roku TV automatically — you don't need to enter an IP address or enable any special TV settings beyond ensuring your TV and iPhone are on the same Wi-Fi network. No PIN or pairing code is required — the connection is instant. The connection persists as long as both devices remain on the same network, making this a permanent wireless remote replacement for your Sanyo TV.

Does the free Sanyo remote app require an account, subscription, or in-app purchases?

No. Our free Sanyo remote app requires no account, no subscription, no credit card, and has no ads. It communicates locally with your Sanyo Roku TV over your home Wi-Fi via HTTP REST (Roku ECP) (port 8060) — no cloud service is involved. All controls including D-pad, volume, HDMI switching, media playback, and streaming app launcher are permanently unlocked at zero cost. No pairing code needed on first connection.

Does Sanyo have its own remote app for this TV?

None — the official Roku app instead. Funai publishes no Sanyo-branded remote app. On an FW Roku TV the first-party app is Roku’s, exactly as it is on the Philips sets from the same factory.

Where is the button on the Sanyo TV itself, and can it reach the settings menu?

FW-series Sanyos follow the Roku convention: one button under the panel or on the rear. Short press powers on when the set is off; when it is on, short press opens the Input List and a long press powers down. Older non-Roku Sanyos instead carry a full button row, because there is no on-screen system to drive. On an FW Roku TV the network menu needs a remote or a phone — Ethernet is the way through first-time setup without either. On a pre-Roku Sanyo the button row is the whole interface and there is no network menu to reach.

Why would a remote app fail to find my Sanyo TV?

The first thing to rule out on a Sanyo is age. Funai’s Roku line is recent; a Sanyo bought before it runs Funai’s own menu system and, on many models, has no network hardware to discover. No amount of router troubleshooting will make a non-networked panel appear. Check the model plate for the FW prefix and look for a Roku logo at boot. If it is an FW Roku set, the usual Roku causes apply — Control by mobile apps under Settings → System → Advanced system settings, and AP isolation on the router blocking SSDP.
