Samsung is the simple case: every current set runs Tizen, from entry Crystal UHD through QLED, Neo QLED, The Frame and the OLED S-series, and Samsung promises up to seven years of software updates on current models. The complication is not the platform — it is the permission prompt the TV shows before it will accept a phone.

Samsung retired the standalone Smart View app in October 2020 and folded its remote and casting features into SmartThings. Sets from 2011 to 2015 lost mobile remote support altogether in that move.
Reaching the menu with no remote
Recent Samsungs carry a multi-directional jog stick on the rear panel, bottom-right as you face the screen — centre on The Frame. Tilt up and down for volume or menu movement, left and right for channel and input, press to select, and hold the centre to power off. Sets from 2016 to 2019 instead put a single button on the front lower bezel under the logo.
The jog controller opens the on-screen Control Menu, which is enough to reach network settings without a remote — the one on-panel control on this list that genuinely gets you into the menu.
Known Samsung failure mode
Samsung documents four separate causes, and they are easy to mistake for one another: phone and TV not genuinely on the same network — a mesh that splits 2.4 and 5 GHz can look identical and behave differently; the TV and app not signed in to the same Samsung account; Local Network permission not granted to the app on iPhone; and, on 2016 and later sets, an Allow prompt on the TV screen that has to be accepted.
What helps: Work through them in that order. The Allow prompt is the awkward one when the remote is dead — use the jog controller on the rear panel to accept it.
